.....Irma Evans Allen, 75, of Pollock entered eternal rest Saturday, November 1, 2008 in the Christus St. Frances Dubuis Unit in Alexandria.
.....She was born on March 14, 1933 in Harrisonburg, Louisiana and to the union of J. N. & Wilma Sikes Evans. She was a retired Nurses Assistant, and primarily a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.
.....Her husbands, Jewell Marvin Allen and Hershel Maddox preceded her in death.
.....She leaves to cherish her memory her three daughters, Teresa Lynn Allen of Alexandria, Prisilla Strange of Pollock, and Penny Maddox Tyler and husband, Theodore of Ball; one son, Dewayne Maddox and wife, Patricia of Flora; twelve grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one nephew and wife, Diane Aymond of Pollock; and a host of friends.

.....She was born September 20, 1927 to the late George and Mattie Grimble Neyland. She is a graduate of Plaucheville High School where she enjoyed playing basketball and softball. She dedicated her life to caring for children, who throughout the years became like family to her. She loved cooking, sewing, dancing, camping, listening to music, keeping up with LSU sports, and being with her family. She was a member of the Alter Society and the Blue Army at Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church in Plaucheville.

.....Mr. Blood was born May 30, 1927 in St. Landry Parish, Louisiana to the late Mary Julia (Carpenter) Blood and Charles Franklin Blood, and died on Monday, October 13, 2008.
.....He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles Franklin Blood and Mary Julia (Carpenter) Blood; five brothers, Oby, Earl, Jesse, Louie, and Walter Blood; three sisters, Genevia Canniff, Edith Vidrine, Mary Connella; brothers-in-law, Ivy Bellingerm, Dave Franks, S. J. Hoyt; and sister-in-law, Ruth Blood.
.....Mr. Blood was a lifelong resident of Alexandria and has resided in Colfax for the last 15 years. He worked early in his life in sawmills and driving a log truck; he then worked as a self-employed carpenter, which trade he practiced until retirement. Some of his hobbies included cooking, gardening, and an avid hunter. He never met a stranger and loved to joke.

.....She was employed with Pinecrest State Hospital for over 20 years. She was a member of St. Matthews Baptist Church and later moved her membership to Union Baptist Church. She was a great wife, mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, and a great Godmother.

.....She was employed with Pinecrest State Hospital for over 20 years. She was a member of St. Matthews Baptist Church and later moved her membership to Union Baptist Church. She was a great wife, mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, and a great Godmother.

.....Dickey Ray Nugent, 72, of Boyce, born in the Georgetown area May 17, 1936, passed away Monday, October 6, 2008 in Alexandria after a sudden battle with cancer.
.....He was a graduate of Winnfield High School in 1955, and in 1958 he was hand picked by Governor Earl Long and entered the Louisiana State Police training academy, becoming a Louisiana State Trooper, retiring at the rank of Sergeant. He was involved with the Oliver Lodge Masonic Order #84 F&AM, American Association of State Troopers, Louisiana State Troopers, Louisiana Peace Officers Association, and Louisiana State Troopers Association.
.....He was a strong man to the very end and was never one to show weakness, his feeling, or his pains. He was a great cook and showed his love by always putting others first. He loved Jesus Christ and he always said “keep your eyes on Jesus,” which he did until Jesus came to take him home. In addition to everything he has done to help people and especially his family through the years, every Thursday since Shawnee and George opened their business, he would show his love and support by cooking a great meal for everyone that worked there and a few people lucky enough to drop in. He will be greatly missed by everyone that knew him.
.....His parents, Walter and Alcine Lincecum Nugent and his brother, Walter Vernon Nugent preceded him in death.

.....Pauline Poland Smith, former resident of Colfax, was born on July 2, 1924 in Winnsboro, Louisiana and went to be with her Lord ad Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at the West Monroe Guest House.
.....Special times in her life include when she gave birth to her daughter, Susan (now deceased) and being married to John Smith, the Sheriff of Grant Parish.
.....Over the years, she enjoyed working in the yard with her flowers, and receiving “Yard of the Month” on several occasions. She also enjoyed dancing, listening to music, and visiting with her family and friends. She was chosen “Queen” of the Mardi Gras Parade in 2005 at the West Monroe Guest House. She retired from Rapides Bank in Alexandria, Louisiana, where she was secretary to seven Vice-Presidents at the bank. She will be remembered and missed by all who knew her.
.....Her husband, John Wilson Smith; one daughter, Susan Ann Hays; three sisters, Sibyl Boutwell, Vera Young, and Myra Ward; and three brothers, Stanford Poland, Pete Poland, and Robert Poland preceded her in death.

Procell, Jake E.
.....Funeral services for Jake E. Procell were held Monday, September 8 in St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father David Richter and Father Kenneth Williams officiating. Mass services were held Sunday, September 7 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Many.
.....Jake E. Procell was a life-long resident of Ebarb Community. He was born October 31, 1919 to the parents of Sam and Polly Leone Procell.
.....After graduation from Ebarb High School, he entered the armed services, serving in the Air Force. He was a World War II Veteran, having served in the Pacific Islands of Hawaii, Phoenix, Marshal, and Iwo Jima.
.....He was the owner of Procell’s Grocery for many years. The “Lake” necessitated a move from this business/home to one further northwest of Zwolle. After operating at this new site for several years, he closed Procell’s Grocery and opened Solan’s Camp-A-Marina and Trailer Park located at the end of Hwy 482. In addition to being a businessperson, he was a farmer. After twenty years of raising broiler chickens for ConAgra, he retired. He enjoyed gardening, watching the Dallas Cowboys, raising cattle, and meeting people. He was a devoted Catholic who served in many capacities as a layperson, Parish Council, Eucharistic Minister, Knights of Columbus, and various committees. He was also the Zwolle Tamale Festival King in 1997.

.....Jake E. Procell was a life-long resident of Ebarb Community. He was born October 31, 1919 to the parents of Sam and Polly Leone Procell.
.....After graduation from Ebarb High School, he entered the armed services, serving in the Air Force. He was a World War II Veteran, having served in the Pacific Islands of Hawaii, Phoenix, Marshal, and Iwo Jima.
.....He was the owner of Procell’s Grocery for many years. The “Lake” necessitated a move from this business/home to one further northwest of Zwolle. After operating at this new site for several years, he closed Procell’s Grocery and opened Solan’s Camp-A-Marina and Trailer Park located at the end of Hwy 482. In addition to being a businessperson, he was a farmer. After twenty years of raising broiler chickens for ConAgra, he retired. He enjoyed gardening, watching the Dallas Cowboys, raising cattle, and meeting people. He was a devoted Catholic who served in many capacities as a layperson, Parish Council, Eucharistic Minister, Knights of Columbus, and various committees. He was also the Zwolle Tamale Festival King in 1997.

.....A native of Grant Parish, he attended and graduated from Rock Hill and Colfax High School; he also attended Louisiana College. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran of World War II, served with the 20th Air Force in the Asia-Pacific theatre. He was employed by United Companies Financial Corporation, retiring after 31 years of service as an officer and director. After retirement, he and his wife Marguerite opened Cruise Shoppe, Ltd., Baton Rouge, which they operated for fifteen years. He was a member of Florida Blvd. Baptist Church and the Air Force Association. He was an active member for 53 years of Lions Clubs International and served as President of the Louisiana Lions League for Crippled Children, District Governor of Dist 8-N and as State Coordinator for the Lions International’s Campaign Sight First Project.
.....His parents, John and Euna Morris Gray; two brothers, Lonnie Gray and Leonard Gray; and seven sisters, Vera Eubanks, Ruth Culver, Betty Chatelain, Verlie Edwards, Faye Gray, Armeline “Totsie” Gray, and Dorothy Smith preceded him in death.

.....He was a native of Kansas, and the youngest of eleven children born to Clarence and Pearl King Smith. He was a retired automobile body technician and worked with his wife at Stuart Lake with Senior Citizens Program, for Kisatchie National Forest. He was a member of Church of Christ, and a U.S. Army Veteran. During World War II he was an ambulance driver in Africa, France, and Germany and participated in the invasion of Southern France. His passion in life was music, where he was an accomplished musician, mastering the mandolin, banjo, fiddle, and guitar, and also built and restored many of the instruments he played.
.....His wife of 52 years, Veneta Daymude Smith preceded him in death.
.....He leaves to cherish his memory his two daughters, Lois Wallis and husband, DeWayne of Salina, Kansas and Wanda Browning and husband, Bob of Bentley; four grandchildren, Cynthia Brunker of Kansas City, Missouri, Deborah Wurdinger of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Randy Browning of Prospect, and Gina Chase of Enid, Oklahoma; and seven great-grandchildren.

He participated in the Louisiana College Symphony Band playing the French horn for several years. He was a deacon at Alpine Baptist Church where he was heavily involved with church activities and had a strong calling for Outreach and Ministries in local prisons and nursing homes.

.....Funeral services for Aurelia Kerry Airhart were held Sunday, August 17 in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Cloutierville. Interment was in Cloutierville Catholic Cemetery, under the direction of Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches.
.....Aurelia Kerry Airhart, 97, of Arkadelphia, Arkansas died on Thursday, August 14, 2008.
.....She was born to Eugene Louis Kerry and Mary Josephine Robinson on July 8, 1911 in Groom, LA. She married Ulysses Samuel Airhart on May 16, 1934. She was a loving spouse, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved to cook especially for her family and friends.
.....Her husband, Ulysses Samuel Airhart; parents, Eugene Louis Kerry and Mary Josephine Robinson Kerry; her oldest son, Larry Bruce Airhart; and two sisters, Florance LaCaze and Loraine Vercher preceded her in death.

.....He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Pollock. He loved hunting and fishing. He was a retired School Bus Driver for Grant Parish School Board. He was a United States Air Force veteran.

.....Services for Annie B. “Peewee” Thornhill were held Saturday, August 16 in Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Tioga with Father George Krosfield officiating. Burial was in Restland Cemetery, Pollock under the direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home.
.....Annie B. “Peewee” Thornhill, 78, of Pineville died Wednesday, August 13, 2008 in Sulphur, Louisiana at her daughter’s residence surrounded by family and friends.
.....She was a retired self-employed owner/operator of Thornhill Cattle Truck Company. She loved her family and her church. She loved to sew, work Bingo at the VFW, and meet people and especially her Bingo friends, which she called family. She also loved to dance and motorcycle ride. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Sulphur, where she was a Catholic daughter.
.....Her husband of 54 years, Cleo Thornhill; parents, Eddie and Edwida Juneau; sister, Ruth Ann Thiels; and great-grandson, Anthony W. George, Jr., preceded her in death.
.....She leaves to cherish her memory her six children, Diane Salard and husband, Jerry of Lena, Connie Moore and husband, Larry of pineville, Rita Marler and husband, James of Sulphur, Paul Thornhill and companion, Billie of Pollock, Eddie Thornhill and wife, Carol of Pineville, and Terry Thornhill and wife, Carolyn of Pineville; brothers, E. Coaker, Gary Arliss
.....Services celebrating the life of Gary Arliss Coaker were held Sunday, August 17 in Alpine First Baptist Church, Tioga with Reverend Richard DeBusk and Reverend Jim Thomasee officiating.
.....Gary Arliss Coaker, 74, of Ball entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, August 12, 2008 at Rapides Regional Medical Center, Alexandria.
.....He was a retired school teacher-band director at Pineville High School and Oak Hill High School for 32 years. Over the years, he was a music director, at several churches, which includes Homewood Baptist Church, Tioga Baptist Church, Kingsville Baptist Church, and Galilee Baptist Church in Pride. He participated in the Louisiana College Symphony Band playing the French horn for several years. He was a deacon at Alpine Baptist Church where he was heavily involved with church activities and had a strong calling for Outreach and Ministries in local prisons and nursing homes.
.....His parents Colon P. and Mary Horton Coaker preceded him in death.
.....He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 47 years, Bobby Mosley Coaker of Ball; his children, Sondra Kay Coaker of Pollock, Karen Coaker Sanchez and husband, Greg of Pollock, Ross Alan Twidwell and wife, Susie of Pineville, and Shaina Twidwell Goudeau and husband, Yosha of Pineville; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
